Today saw another official presentation in the Press Room at the Carlos Tartiere, this time starring Joni Montiel, who signed for the club yesterday.
The midfielder was joined by the club's Head of Institutional Relations, César Martín, who welcomed him to Oviedo and wished him the best of luck. He also thanked the new loan signing for his willingness to join the club from the capital of Asturias. The player began the press conference by explaining how the move had come about, saying that "Rubén Reyes showed a lot of interest in me. He showed he had confidence in me and it was mutual. Things couldn't have been better since I arrived. I'd seen things about Oviedo on social networks, and it was appealing to come here and grow. I am very excited. I'm coming to a historic club who have shown a lot of interest in me. I have to repay their faith on the pitch. Let's hope that everything goes well this season."
Regarding what he can bring to the team, Joni Montiel stated that "I've heard that the fans are 200% behind you, but that you have to repay them with hard work and be the best you can be. I consider myself to be a possession player, who likes to get involved and be important. I feel comfortable in several positions, but I feel good as an attacking central midfielder. I am hungry to work and get to know my teammates, so as to get involved in the team. I want to contribute everything I have in order to help the team."
Asked whether he could be available for Ziganda for Saturday's match against CD Lugo, the midfielder reasoned that "I have to start little by little, I've just recovered from Covid. I need to be patient and slowly get up to pace, so that I can begin to contribute."
Finally, Joni Montiel stressed that the team's objective for the season is "all about taking it one day at a time, competing, and repaying the fans for their support. I hope it goes well."
