Real Oviedo defender Javi Hernández appeared in the Press Room today at El Requexón.

Regarding last weekend’s victory in Almería, the defender believes that “it changes everything. We were left with a sour taste in our mouths after Córdoba, but this week we got a good victory against a great team.”

With respect to the fine performance seen from the team in Andalucía, Javi highlighted that, “we were focused on battling and being professional and disciplined. We were patient, and both the goal and the victory came. We went for it right from the first minute, giving it everything, and that’s how we got the victory.”

Asked about the formation and his role as a centre back, Javi said that, “the Coach knows that I can play in both positions. He chose to play me at centre back and I’m happy with it. The formation changed a little and we have one less man at the back, but if we are together then there shouldn’t be any spaces, and we shouldn’t have to run so much. We all have to press together and fight to the death. The aim was to press high and to make them uncomfortable.”

Talking about this weekend’s clash with Granada, Javi believes that “it’s going to be a tough game. We have to go after them and go for the win. The team has stayed calm and maintained the same excitement as right from the start. We will keep trying right to the end.” In addition, regarding Sergio Egea’s message to the squad, the centre back commented that “he’s made us believe that the playoffs are still possible. We have six ‘cup finals’ left, and we’ve got to keep pushing on.”

Finally, asked what it means to be back at home this weekend, Javi concluded by highlighting that, “we’ve drawn the last few games here, but we want to make the fans happy.”
