Real Oviedo centre back, Héctor Verdés, appeared in the Press Room at El Requexón following the team’s training session.

With Forlín missing in Soria, having collected five yellow cards, Verdés said that, “it gives me a chance to come into the starting eleven and help the team. I train every day so that I am ready to play when the Coach calls on me. If it’s me that comes in for Juan, then I hope I can perform at his level.”

Ahead of the match at Los Pajaritos, the centre back stated that, “going to Soria is never easy. They have had a great season and we are going to a very difficult ground.” In addition, regarding the home side’s playing
style, the Carbayón captain highlighted that, “they are a team that gets the ball out wide and tries to find a way through with crosses. We are working well ahead of match. We know that it is all about defending well, being clinical going forward, and doing well in all other areas of the pitch.”

With respect to the importance of the match and what a victory would mean going into the final LaLiga fixtures, Verdés believes that, “we need to approach it like a final. We only have one opportunity to play this match and whatever happens it won’t come back around. We have to give our lives in this game. It’s a good chance to face a team in a playoff position. We
are going there to win and overtake them in the table.” In addition, the Valencian pointed out that, “it’s all about believing in ourselves as we have all season. We have been in the playoff places before, and we need to be aware that we can get back in there.”

Finally, regarding whether he would accept a draw so as to have a better head-to-head record than CD Numancia, the defender argued that, “the people of Oviedo wouldn’t accept a draw for that reason. Nor would I, except if we are losing and equalise in the 95th minute! There are six matches left, with three points available in each, and we need to fight for them,” he concluded.
