Real Oviedo goalkeeper, Alfonso Herrero, appeared in the Press Room at El Requexón after the first half of today’s training match against the B team.
Speaking about the importance of the next game in Soria, the Carbayón keeper said that, “we are aware that it is an important game. It is against a direct promotion rival. Numancia are a great side. We are going to their ground to fight, approaching it in the best possible way, and battling for the three points.”
With respect to the difficulties presented by matches at Los Pajaritos, Alfonso Herrero said that, “it will be the first time I’ve played there. They are strong at home like us. We are working hard so that we go there as well prepared as possible. We want to play to our strengths and cause them problems. We have to play with cool heads, and with an awareness of the importance of the match.”
The match against Numancia will mark a full round of fixtures since Alfonso Herrero came into Juan Antonio Anquela’s starting line-up. Talking about his introduction into the team, the stopper said, “I remember that it was something nice. It was a different week, which culminated in the victory.” In addition, regarding his evaluation of the subsequent period, he argued that, “personally I see it positively, but at the end of the day it all depends on the team’s results. It will be a positive year if we achieveour aims. I’m proud to have got to where I am today.”
Asked about the team’s chances of getting into one of the top six positions in order to reach the playoffs, Alfonso Herrero responded that, “that’s what we are fighting for. The team is ready to be up there. We are going to fight to the end. We want to be up there.”
Regarding the team’s ability to pick itself back up following a defeat, Alfonso reasoned that, “it’s a statistic which says a lot about the team. Knowing how to recover after a defeat is important in this division. We have made ourselves strong at home and it’s hard to lay a glove on us. We are going to Soria to win, and I hope it works out like that.”
Finally, talking about what he expects to see from Real Oviedo in the match at Los Pajaritos, the goalkeeper highlighted that, “if we do what the Coach asks of us then we can stand up to any opponent. We need to know what we are capable of, and then fight for the victory,” he concluded.
