Real Oviedo defender Héctor Verdés paid a visit to the press conference room after the first preseason training session for Juan Antonio Anquela's men.
When asked about his approach to the first week of the preseason and how he felt after the first morning session, the Valencian center defender said that "the feeling of reconnecting with teammates, getting to know the coaching staff and the new signings...these are good days".
As a matter of fact, regarding the new faces during today's first training, Héctor Verdés indicated that "of the three new additions, I only know Aarón after having played with him on several teams. I know the rest from playing against them this past season, they've put forth great efforts this past season and they are here by their own merit". Concerning his contract renovation with Real Oviedo, which binds the Valencian to the club for the next two seasons, Héctor Verdés assures that "my intention has always been to stay here, we came to an understanding and made an agreement. This is where I want to be, I am comfortable here".
When asked about Juan Antonio Anquela and his way of interpreting football, the Valencian highlighted the fact that he "is a coach who has amply shown what he can accomplish. He has done great things with humble teams. We hope to add to his success and achieve what we have set out to do".
Regarding what has been asked of the "carbayón" center defender this season, which begins in August, Héctor Verdés stated that "individually I want continuity, and as a team to win week in and week out on the field. I don't like to think in the distant future, we are in the moment working on getting fit physically and later we will figure out the rest". Additionally, about the continuity asked of him in the coming season, the Valenciano believes that "this past season I didn't have the regularity that every player wants, for problems which you're aware of. This season I come with loads of eagerness and I hope that the injuries stay away".
Finally, when asked if he was going to follow any specific plan to start the season at 100%, Héctor Verdés stated that "the idea is to start with the team, I feel good right now. The past year I started off hobbling, but this year the idea is so start in rhythm with the rest of the team".
