On a day like today, October 21, in the year 1945, Real Oviedo defeated Valencia in a match played at the Buenavista Stadium and led the First Division standings.
The match corresponded to the fifth round of the National First Division League Championship. Real Oviedo, whose coach was Manolo Meana, presented the following lineup: Argila, Jugo, Penedo, Sansón, Diestro, Sirio, Antón, Goyín, Cabido, Herrerita, Emilín.
The halftime score was 1-0. The goal was scored by Antón in the 40th minute. In the second half, Goyín made it 2-0 on the scoreboard, specifically in the 67th minute. The third goal came in the 89th minute of the match, scored by Cabido. The game ended with a 3-0 scoreline.
With that victory, Real Oviedo became the leader of the First Division, with 8 points out of the 10 contested. Sevilla had the same number of points but a worse overall goal difference. While the Andalusian team had a positive goal difference of 3, the Asturian team's was 6.
