Dear Porti,
We confess that back in November when your ‘outside-the-market’ signing was announced, only some of us, silently, dreamt that it could culminate as it did. Your time as a player for Real Oviedo has been brief, but unforgettable. Half a season has allowed you to leave a lasting mark on this club, on Oviedo and in the hearts of all Oviedistas.
The name Francisco Portillo Soler, as well as that of a select few others, will remain forever engraved in our memory. You were the scorer of the third goal in that historic match that culminated in our return to the First Division. A goal which we will never forget. A moment that unleashed the chaos of thousands of people and put the perfect finishing touch to a magical night. A goal that will always be part of our history, as will you be.
Those of us who have been able to work with you on a day-to-day basis have got to know you as a person, one who goes far beyond the field of play. A guy who stands out for his genuine goodness, for his companionship, for his professionalism and for his humility. A guy who came to Oviedo with the hope of helping, and helping to fulfil a dream. And that, Porti, is also celebrated and appreciated, even if only a few of us had the privilege of enjoying it.
We can only return that affection with two words that sum it all up: THANK YOU. Thank you for being part of our journey, for letting us see you go CRAZY defending our shirt and for representing with honour the values of Real Oviedo.
