Real Oviedo ended an atypical 2020 at the NMR Carlos Tartiere tonight with a 4-2 victory over CD Tenerife, in what was the penultimate league match of the calendar year for Ziganda's team.
An end-to-end match saw a high tempo, a lot of goals, and a good bperformance from Los Azules, in spite of them conceding two goals. Ziganda selected a starting eleven made up of Femenías; Juanjo Nieto, Arribas, Bolaño, Mossa: Borja Sánchez, Edgar, Javi Mier, Marco Sangalli; Obeng and Leschuk. The first half saw Real Oviedo begin the match by benefitting from Pomares' red card just a few seconds after kick-off. Los Carbayones started to put together fine moves and attempt to threaten Dani Hernández in the Tenerife goal, particularly from crosses by the wide men. One such attack saw Blanco Leschuk score the opener, as he headed home a Juanjo Nieto cross. The hosts pinned Tenerife back in their own half and did not allow them to trouble Femenías. Ziganda's side had control of the ball and moved the ball from one wing to the other, as they looked to create gaps in the visitors' defence, particularly through crosses into the box and one-on-ones with the away side's full backs. Fine combination play between Borja Sánchez and Mossa saw the latter cut the ball back towards the penalty spot, where Blanco Leschuk took full advantage and doubled the lead. Tenerife managed to reduce the deficit from an isolated passage of play, making the score 2-1. Ramis' side barely had any chances, and found themselves up against a Real Oviedo who went in search of a third goal. The first half ended with a good volley from Sangalli going narrowly wide.
Tenerife continued to sit back during the second half, trying to maintain the scoreline and look for isolated chances to grab an equaliser. Los Azules had control of the ball once more and again moved the ball well from one wing to the other, but lacked presence in the area. A free kick in the 64th minute saw a Tenerife player make the most of a second ball to level the scores. Ziganda turned to his bench to introduce Rodri Ríos, who headed home a fine cross from Juanjo Nieto just a few seconds after entering the fray to put Real Oviedo back into the lead. Los Carbayones controlled possession but allowed Tenerife to step forward, and the match entered an
end-to-end period of play, in which both teams went for goals. Blanco Leschuk trapped the ball inside the area, passed the ball to Borja, and the attacker beat the away goalkeeper to make the score 4-2. He dedicated the goal to former Real Oviedo player Edu Cortina, who has recently suffered an injury. Riki was followed by Lucas and Jimmy in the final changes for Ziganda's side, who finished the encounter by controlling the possession.
These three points move Los Azules onto a total of 25. The side will tomorrow begin to prepare for Tuesday's Copa del Rey fixture against CD Coria.
