Real Oviedo emerged for the match wearing the commemorative shirt in honour Real Stadium Club Ovetense, and a minute's silence was held for the victims of Covid-19, amidst the vast emptiness left by the lack of home fans.  The silence was accompanied by a floral offering, with LaLiga returning behind closed doors at the Carlos Tartiere.
Cuco Ziganda opted to keep the same starting eleven as in the last league match in Extremadura, with the only change being the introduction of Lucas at right back.  The first half saw few chances for either side.  Real Oviedo tried to work the ball through the middle, with the central midfielders linking up before playing the ball out wide to make the most of Sangalli and Bárcenas' crosses.  However, Ponferradina used very compact lines and did not allow Cuco Ziganda's team to achieve any fluency.  One opportunity for Arribas was saved by René and Ortuño attempted a header, in the only chances for Los Azules during the first half.
Ponferradina emerged the stronger side for the second half, with several good chances which were denied by Lunin.  Real Oviedo dominated the final stages, though, albeit more in terms of attacking thrust than real chances.  The side made their way into the box on various occasions, but couldn't make the most of it.
The side picked up a point on a cold night at their home stadium, when they missed their fans more than ever.
