Real Oviedo traveled to Getafe to face a new league match away from the Carlos Tartiere. After the victory against Real Sociedad at home, Paunovic's men arrived at this new fixture with confidence and eager to earn their first points on the road. The international break and injuries led to a different starting eleven today, consisting of: Aarón Escandell, Nacho Vidal, Dani Calvo, David Costas, Javi López, Reina, Dendoncker, Ilic, Hassan, Brekalo, and Forés.
The sun and the timing took their toll from the first minute of play, and the game was slow. Barely 15 minutes into the match, Nacho Vidal, after a head collision with Diego Rico, fell to the ground and had to be substituted due to a possible concussion. Lucas Ahijado entered the field, and the Valencian full-back had to leave the pitch in an ambulance.
After the bad news, the match resumed, although without much change from what had been seen so far. Chances were scarce for both teams, and the game remained slow. When it seemed the match would reach halftime at 0-0, two set-piece actions by Bordalás' team put the score at 2-0. Mario Martín and Borja Mayoral were responsible for converting both chances, giving Getafe the lead at halftime. Oviedo had their first chance through Reina, but his shot from outside the box hit the crossbar.
After the break, Paunovic brought on Cazorla, Viñas, and Colombatto. Our team tried to maintain more possession to create danger on Soria's goal, but the chances did not come. Rahim and Carmo also got minutes later on, but nothing changed. In the final stretch of the match, Viñas was sent off with a straight red card, leaving Oviedo with one less player for the last ten minutes of the game.
A cold blow for the blue team, which returns to Asturias with a defeat. With time ahead to reflect and work, the team is already thinking about their next league match against Elche CF at the Martínez Valero.
