Matchday 24 in LaLiga Smartbank took Real Oviedo to the Estadio de Cartagonova to face Cartagena. The match ended in a 2-0 defeat for the Asturians.
Los Azules started this away match with a starting eleven made up of Femenías; Juanjo Nieto, Grippo, Bolaño, Lucas; Sangalli, Edgar, Tejera, Nahuel; Blanco Leschuk and Borja Sánchez. The visitors began the game by showing very good organisation and control of the game, firing a few early warning shots, with a couple of chances to open the scoring. However, it would be Cartagena who opened the scoring from a corner kick. A VAR decision then went against the team from the capital of Asturias. Sangalli was brought down by a home defender in the box, but, after checking VAR, the referee ruled that there had not been any contact. Halftime arrived with the score 1-0.
The team once again emerged more strongly than their opponent for the second half but found it difficult to find the final ball around the box and Cartagena then doubled their lead. Real Oviedo turned to their bench, bringing on Borja Valle, Javi Mier, Rodri Ríos and Mossa, but they would not prove enough to turn the match around.
Following defeat at Cartagonova, Los Azules will return to Oviedo this evening. They will now begin to prepare for the next league fixture, which will see them face CD Lugo.
