David Costas: "Focus on Saturday, on Almería, and on winning"

The defender admits that in Tenerife "we had a bad day" but underlines the importance of "starting over and clearing our heads"

Real Oviedo defender David Costas appeared in the Press Room at El Requexón today as the first team returned to training.
Following the setback in Tenerife, and with a few days having passed since the defeat, the centre back evaluated the feelings around the team. "Right from the first minute we didn't compete. They scored some quick goals and we weren't able to get ourselves back together. We usually compete, but the other day we had a bad day collectively. They overwhelmed us. These things happen. You go out there too relaxed and they overwhelm you. It was a disastrous day. We have to start over, clear our heads, and focus on what is coming up."
Regarding what the team has learnt from the encounter at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López, David Costas highlighted that "we have to be aware that matches start in the first minute, not in the twentieth. We have to compete right from the start. This is the Segunda, a very competitive division, and these things can happen."
Ahead of what's coming up, with a fixture against Almería the next one on the horizon, the centre back stated that "I don't think about the long term, but rather take it one game at a time. We will see about the playoffs come the end of the season. We have to focus on Saturday, on Almería, and on winning." In addition, regarding the next opponent, David Costas reasoned that "it's a difficult opponent, but we are playing at home in front of our fans. We are going to go out to win. It's an important match if we want to keep chasing our target."
Asked about the importance of goal difference going into the second half of the season, the defender highlighted that "I wouldn't care if it were even worse if we were higher up the league! I wish we had conceded more goals but had more victories."
Finally, asked about the need to bring in a centre back during the transfer window, Costas believes that "there are players that can adapt to several positions. I am happy with the team, we have a great group, and if we have to call on lads from the B team then we will do so. It's up to the Gaffer and the sports management structure."
