Real Oviedo went into Matchday 2 in LaLiga EA Sports looking forward to getting back to the Carlos Tartiere. Los Carbayones were up against Real Madrid in the first home match of the season. Following the defeat against Villarreal last time out, Veljko Paunović opted for a starting eleven made up of Aarón Escandell, Oier Luengo, David Costas, Dani Calvo, Rahim, Sibo, Nacho Vidal, Ilic, Dendocker, Chaira, and Rondón.

The Asturians started strongly, with Ilyas Chaira getting in behind, but Courtois was able to clear. The next chance fell to Rodrygo, with the Brazilian working his way into the box and forcing Aarón into a save from a low shot. Four minutes later, Dani Calvo was forced to intervene to prevent Mbappé from opening the scoring. Costas was the next forced into action to deny Rodrygo, before Veljko Paunović's side had one of the best chances of the first half. A fine piece of individual play from Rondón saw the forward release Dendoncker, but the Belgian midfielder's lob was easily caught by Courtois. The minutes ticked by and the scores remained level. Xabi Alonso's side then had a double chance, but first Aarón Escandell kept out a left-footed strike from Rodrygo, and then the defence dealt with Arda Güler's effort from the rebound. However, a few minutes later the deadlock would be broken. Tchouameni won the ball back in the midfield before sliding the ball through to Mbappé, who got the better of Aarón.

Los Azules made a change for the second half, with Hassan coming on in place of Oier Luengo. Real Madrid had the first chance after the interval, with Valverde's long-range effort going over the bar. Sibo would then try his luck from the edge of the box, but his effort was saved. Fede Viñas and Ejaria entered the fray, and Hassan fired a shot wide. Brekalo was next to come on, in place of Chaira, with the Croatian making his debut for the club. Sibo then went closest for Real Oviedo, with his shot hitting the post in the 81st minute. Immediately after this chance, Real Madrid doubled their lead. Vinicius pounced on a loose ball and played in Mbappé, for the French forward to grab his second. The striker had the opportunity to complete his hattrick, but Escandell made a great stop. In the final stages, Hassan looked to cut the deficit with a powerful shot, but he was denied by the keeper, before Viñas' overhead kick from the rebound went wide. Cazorla came on for the final minutes, but Real Madrid sealed their win in stoppage time. A counter attack from the visitors saw Vinicius seal their 0-3 win.

Thoughts now turn to the visit of Real Sociedad to the Carlos Tartiere on Saturday 30th August.
