Cotugno: “Working hard and focusing on Numancia”

Looking ahead to the coming matches, the Real Oviedo full back declares that, “the whole team has to contribute in defence. It’s unfair that only the goalkeeper gets criticised”

There are no reactions yet. Be the first!

Real Oviedo full back, Guillermo Cotugno, appeared in the Press Room at El Requexón following the first team’s return to training.

The Uruguayan began by weighing up the state of the group going into next weekend’s clash with CD Numancia. “It’s always difficult when you lose. We have to prepare for a new matchday and keep working in the same way we had been. We want to pick up a home win for ourselves.”

With respect to his view on last week’s defeat in Valladolid, Guillermo Cotugno highlighted that, “we conceded in the first few minutes. We didn’t stop trying, but we couldn’t get our reward. We had worked hard on pressing, and it’s a shame. Now we can only think about Numancia and work. We have to work hard, with a positive mindset, and knowing that through hard work we can get to where we want to be.”

Asked about the competitive nature of the division, in which there is no predictable week in terms of results, the Real Oviedo right back admitted that, “I didn’t expect such an even division. There are no easy matches; every single one is like a final. We are going to play Numancia, and we will try to put in a good performance to get ourselves the three points.”

Talking about the defensive struggles of the team and how it affects things on a daily basis, the Uruguayan pointed out that, “we don’t feel pressured. We have to work on it to become a strong team. There is no other option but to keep working and using it as motivation to improve. We
must go looking to win matches as we had been doing. The other day we had five minutes when we went close to equalising before they scored against us from an offside position. We must keep working.” Furthermore, Guillermo Cotugno said that, “it’s wrong to wait for them to score before reacting. We must work on it. We must go out to win the match from the first minute.”

Finally, asked about the criticism Juan Carlos has endured since the last match, Guillermo Cotugno believes that, “the goalkeeper position is always under the greatest spotlight. The whole team has to contribute in defence. It’s unfair that only the goalkeeper gets criticised. The only
way to get the result is through hard work. The support we get at every match is incredible, and it’s a shame we couldn’t achieve the victory,” concluded the Uruguayan.
