Real Oviedo defender, Carlos Hernández, appeared in the Press Room at El Requexón following today’s training match against the B team.

With respect to this morning’s match against Real Oviedo Vetusta and how these types of training sessions are reflected in the weekend matches, the centre back said that, “every week is a test. The Coach is trying players out, having a look at things, and it’s what is needed. We are working on a system. We must practise it, develop good performances, and work hard to be able to produce much better matches.” In addition, regarding the formation employed by Juan Antonio Anquela in recent weeks, Carlos Hernández believes that, “we have to work on some defensive aspects. We have controlled the ball and had a good balance. If we are able to produce our best performances, as the Coach demands, we will be in a good place.”

Asked about set pieces and the key role they play in each match, the Real Oviedo defender stated that, “they decide many matches. They are crucial. We must work on them in both boxes, avoiding errors and hoping that luck is on our side.”

In addition to set pieces, the centre back stressed the importance of a solid defence, admitting that, “you must begin by keeping a clean sheet. In order to do this, you have to commit minimal errors and build a solid foundation. We want to be a team that is difficult to play against. We must stay calm, work hard and know that if we play our game well, then we are a group of winners. If we are on our game, then we can beat any team.”

Finally, regarding the team’s next opponent, Numancia, and what it means to return to the Carlos Tartiere, Carlos Hernández highlighted that, “they are a team with various options. We must play well. We are at home and want to get the positive feeling back. Playing at home is an extra motivation, but we can’t win at home and lose away. We are strong at home, but we can’t be a different team when we play away. This Saturday will be a test, and we must pass it with a victory.”
