Real Oviedo full back, Christian Fernández, appeared in the Press Room at El Requexón following the first team’s return to training.

Following the second day back in training, the defender declared that, “the team wants it to be Sunday now. We want to get back to winning ways and push up the table.”

Despite the setback last weekend at the Carlos Tartiere, Christian Fernández argued that, “there’s a long way to go and we are still in the fight. We have shown that we can get to the top with effort and commitment. Things like Saturday can happen, particularly in this division. This season will be determined by what the team does in these final matches. It’s all about winning in Lugo now.”

Talking about the team’s current position, the full back highlighted that, “we aren’t as bad as we’re being made out to be. It’s true that everything got exaggerated after the Sporting game, but we knew that we still hadn’t done anything. We need to be aware of who we are and where we are. We have got to 50 points, and you can’t underestimate that. We need to wait until the end of the season to see where we finish.”

Asked about a possible change in formation for the match at the Anxo Carro, the Cantabrian said that, “the Coach hasn’t told us how we are going to play. As the week goes on we will practise things, and then we will see.”

With respect to the even nature of the division, Christian believes that, “we are all involved in the fight. This division is of a high standard, and we need to be aware of this weekend’s battle. Lugo play good football and it will be one of the most difficult matches of the season.”

Finally, regarding criticism in recent weeks for his intensity during games, Christian Fernández responded that, “I don’t care what they say about me. I know who I need to pay attention to, and I value the opinions of the people with me. I am going to keep giving everything for the badge and playing to the limits. I am not a violent player and I am not going to carry that reputation just because they give me it,” he concluded.
