Real Oviedo fullback Carlos Martínez appeared in the Press Room today at El Requexón.
Following last weekend’s draw at the Carlos Belmonte, the defender commented that “it was a very competitive match, in which we did a good job. We are happy with the solidity of the team, and with the manner in which we are competing. We have to turn it into a good point by winning this Sunday.”
In addition to earning a point, another one of the positives from the match against Albacete was the clean sheet. Regarding this, Carlos believes that “it is the foundation in every division. Not conceding goals earns you points, and makes the three points even closer.”
When asked about the change in the team from 2018 to 2019, the Real Oviedo defender said that “the work is the same, but the difference is in the results. We are doing well, and know how to suffer and dig deep. The team is working hard and following the same path. Now we are on a good run and receiving praise, but we can’t relax. We have to go for the three points at home.”
Ahead of this weekend’s match against CD Lugo, Carlos Martínez stated that “no one is going to make things easy for us. We are going to face a difficult match, since they are also coming into it in need of points.”
With respect to the team’s league position, the defender affirmed that “we are always looking (at the table). It’s behind everything we do. The end is getting closer and we have to keep an eye on it. We are in the position that we wanted to be in, and now we just have to go up.”
Finally, when asked about the importance of the Tartiere, Carlos concluded that “we are aware that we are strong when we play at the Tartiere, but there’s a long way to go. It’s good to have more matches at home because the fans support us and you notice it. We are looking forward to Sunday.”
