Real Oviedo defender, Carlos Hernández, appeared in the Press Room following the latest training session for Juan Antonio Anquela’s men.
The centre back declared himself “happy” following Sunday’s victory over Granada, and admitted that, “we needed a victory to get a positive atmosphere back. We knew that we were facing a great team with great players, but we also knew how to approach the match. We knew that if we played well then we could beat anyone, and that’s how it turned out.”
Saturday’s fixture sees Real Oviedo face a Córdoba side on a fine run of form, having won their last four games. Asked about the upcoming match, Carlos Hernández stated his belief that, “teams go on runs, both good and bad. They are a great team in good form and confident, but we have to do our job and keep going along this line of playing well. At the end of the day everyone is playing for something, and I think that it will be a difficult match.”
With respect to what a victory at the Nuevo Arcángel would mean to the team, the Carbayón defender reasoned that, “it’s not easy to win away from home and it makes a huge difference. It is crucial to earn points away from the Tartiere. We got to this position through our earlier run and now we just have the last part left, which is to keep going and not drop off.” He also warned that, “we can’t make judgements now, because every opponent is very difficult. We mustn’t think that we are going to win before playing, but if we put in a good performance and keep a clean sheet, we will get points there.”
Finally, regarding the main man in the Córdoba attack, Sergi Guardiola, and his personal preferences when it comes to defending against strikers, Carlos Hernández pointed out that, “every striker in the division is at a high level. They make the difference, but we need to stick together and fight against it. I personally prefer to defend against a more fixed forward because you feel more comfortable. A mobile player is more difficult to keep track of and it’s harder to defend against,” he concluded.
