The Press Room at El Requexón today saw Borja Sánchez speak to the media for the first time since his contract renewal.
The Asturian began by explaining the process by which he had prolonged his stay at the club, describing himself as "happy" to stay with his hometown club. He admitted that "I stayed away from what was being said. I received offers, but I didn't negotiate with any other club. I wanted to stay here. I never wanted to leave. I was in the situation that my contract was ending, but when I received the first offers I spoke to Real Oviedo. That was my priority."
Borja Sánchez wished to thank all those involved in his renewal, saying that he wanted to "thank the Gaffer and Tito (Blanco), because they've been very respectful with the timeframes. They are an important part of me being here. Arturo (Elías) was here to help me to stay, and Jesús (Martínez) also transmitted his desire that I should stay."
Finally, with respect to the key factors that the team must focus on in order to have a great season, the Asturian reasoned that "it's all about working well right from the start and creating this year's project. We have to be focused on what we almost achieved last year. We were together in unison with the fans. I'd like to take the chance of the season-ticket campaign starting today to ask them to renew."
