Real Oviedo first team Head Coach, Juan Antonio Anquela, appeared in the Press Room this morning following the team’s training session at El Requexón.

The Head Coach began by discussing the state of his players, with Aarón recovering well, and with the objective of “getting everyone back that we can”. Following the recent positive run, Anquela called for calm. “In this sport you have to remain the same in the good and bad times, and the results can’t lead you astray. The results have arrived through hard work and doing things well, and that is how to compete. Anyone who doesn’t think like that is mistaken.”

The Coach continues to insist on the need for day-to-day work, but he did admit that, “the team has been more compact and solid. We can’t drop our level here, as I am always saying to the lads. If we aren’t at 100%, we can’t even get draws. 100% doesn’t even guarantee you a draw. I always say the same, but that’s the only way I know in football. Saying that on team will beat another is impossible because all of us teams depend on minor details, and sometimes you can’t predict what those details will be. That is how the matches are decided.”

Asked whether his players have made it especially difficult for him to choose the team this week, the Coach stated that, “I have one rule, and that is that everything is decided out on the pitch at the weekend. I am very happy with my players. I always was, even when we weren’t getting the results. This will take blood, sweat and tears, but that’s how it always is. You don’t win on name alone, and we are all in the same boat. You can see the results. They are there to see every weekend. Anyone who gets ahead of themselves or gets above their station will lose out. You have to graft and work every day, and then benefit from luck, in order that the minor details I mentioned fall your way. The only thing I ask is that the lads come in each day, work hard, and enjoy it from day-to-day. Nowadays, having a job you enjoy and where they pay you well is something to value. I decide who plays, but they are making it just as difficult for me as they have been doing all along.”

Regarding this weekend’s opponent, the recently relegated CA Osasuna, the Real Oviedo Head Coach described them as “a Primera División club. They come with this advantage. I think they will be up there because they have to be, because they are good, and because they have everything you need to get back to the top division. However, it won’t be easy. They know that, we know that, and everybody else knows that. You have to give everything in every match and enjoy the necessary luck. I predict a tough, competitive match. We are two teams that want to win. We both know how to aim upwards, and we want the result to fall our way,” he concluded.
