Real Oviedo Head Coach, Juan Antonio Anquela, today appeared in the Press Room at El Requexón.

The Coach began by analysing his team’s situation ahead of the Osasuna clash, declaring that “everyone’s committed, with good attitudes and a lot of desire. What happened other day was very tough, since we didn’t play how we wanted, but nor were we as bad as people think.” In addition, regarding the matchday squad, he commented that, “we’ve had to leave Borja out since we have a lot of players in his position.”

Talking about whether Bárcenas is in contention for a starting place, Anquela believes that, “he’s available to play, but the issue is the travelling. We’ll see how it goes and how things develop as time goes by.”

Asked what the team needs in order to get the three points against Osasuna, the ‘Carbayón’ Coach admitted that, “we’ve been looking for it all along. We have to take good, calm final decisions. We know everything is about good choices, but football is how it is. At the start of the season we scored a lot of goals and we thought we’d cracked it, but these things come and go. We have to stay calm in the knowledge that if we have chances, we will score. We are getting forward well, but not making the most of our chances.”

With respect to his feelings towards the team going into the latest LaLiga match, Juan Antonio Anquela highlighted that, “I trust all of my lads. I encourage and support them. I have to keep the team fully focused. We have to be prepared for anything, that’s all there is to it. Football is like that, and we have to trust ourselves. I’m not going to doubt the team, and I’ll work until the last second. Points are the key thing. The difference has just been in whether the ball has gone in or not, that’s all.”

Asked whether he sees the Osasuna game as a final, the Coach reasoned that, “to put it simply, in football there are a lot of matches, and particularly important ones. There are a lot remaining and we have to turn up, believing in what we do and ready to work. We have to stay together.”

Ahead of a possible change in formation, Anquela believes that, “we change and try to do things in every match. We thought we’d be better playing this way the other day, but we had some problems. We are open to playing in several ways and we are working on them. We have to study how our opponent plays before deciding. When we play with three at the back the wing backs have more freedom and we are more solid. We have incisive full backs who get forward, and we have more possession when we play in that way.”

Finally, regarding Osasuna, Anquela highlighted that, “they have good footballers. They’re a team that will be up there and I think they’re a good team. They started the season with problems but they straightened things out. We are prepared to combat them and I hope we have the drive to dominate the match. We have to compete and respect the competition,” he concluded.
