Real Oviedo played the 16th league match of the season this afternoon, with a B-team derby against Sporting de Gijón B. Today's 1-0 victory moved Los Azules onto seven consecutive victories in this particular fixture.
The RealOviedoTV cameras showed today's clash live on our official Youtube channel, with Los Azules starting the match with an eleven made up of B.Hórreo; Jorge Mier, Ando, Armenteros, Prada; Guille Bernabéu, Rober, Meléndez; Fuentes, Sandoval and Javi Cueto. Vetusta went into the encounter looking to bounce back from defeat away at Numancia and secure three points to continue fighting to avoid the relegation places, and they would manage nto do so. Both sides gave very little away in the first half. Vetusta started the match well, but struggled to find men between the lines. There were very few chances in this clash between two well-organised B teams. The nVetusta wingers tried to create danger down the wings, but struggled to get the ball to the forwards, and the two sides went in for halftime with the score 0-0.
The halftime interval saw Erik Aguado come on as a substitute and Emilio Cañedo's side take the initiative in the match, beginning to threaten down the wings. One such passage of play led to Sporting B defender Zalaya
turning the ball into his own net from Sandoval's low cross, with Javi Cueto waiting to convert. The B team began to feel comfortable out on Pitch 1 at El Requexón and enjoyed their best spell of the game. Pedro Inglés came on to replace the injured Prada. Steven then replaced Javi Cueto, before Joselu entered the fray in the final substitution. Real Oviedo Vetusta ended the match with chances to extend the lead and with a professional defensive performance, dealing with all of the away side's attacks.
These were three important points for Los Azules on both a morale and a footballing level. They allow Emilio Cañedo's side to continue to fight to escape the relegation zone. Los Azules will travel to Valladolid to face Real Valladolid's B team next week.
