Aar贸n Escandell appeared this Wednesday before the media during the week of Real Oviedo's league debut, as they prepare for their first match of the season against Granada CF. The blue goalkeeper reflected on his contract renewal with the Oviedo team, the new sports project, and the importance of building a united locker room to face the season.
Escandell began by expressing his gratitude for the trust placed in him after extending his contract with the club. The goalkeeper highlighted the role of all parties involved in the agreement and assured that staying with the team was always his priority. "I thank everyone, the Pachuca Group, Real Oviedo, the sports management, and everyone. The negotiation was never tense. This was the place where I wanted to be, and so did my family. I have felt at home here like nowhere else," he stated.
The goalkeeper believes that the current context is very different from two seasons ago and advocates looking forward. "We shouldn't look back. Two years ago, there were different faces and a different coaching staff. Now we have a new team, and little by little, the results are coming to prepare us in the best way for the first league match," he pointed out.
One of Escandell's main messages revolved around the unity of the group. The goalkeeper explained that the coaching staff emphasizes the need to build a solid team in all aspects, both on and off the field.
"They ask us to be a very united group. If one falls, we all fall. If one rises, we all rise. A team in every sense."
The arrival of new players has brought significant renewal to the squad, but Escandell understands that the key will be ensuring that all members of the locker room function as a unit before facing the competition.
The goalkeeper also had words of recognition for Narv谩ez, highlighting both his personal qualities and the effort he has made to balance football with his studies.
"He is a great person, a very hardworking guy. Last year, he completed his degree, competed with the reserve team, and was with us, and that is very difficult."
Escandell believes that the young goalkeeper is in an ideal environment to continue progressing. "Let him enjoy it; he is in the perfect place to grow. There is very healthy competition, and we get along very well," he added.
Beyond sports, Escandell acknowledged that his connection with Oviedo goes beyond football. The goalkeeper emphasized the affection he has received since his arrival and the bond he has established with the city and its fans. "What this city and its fans have made me feel, both emotionally and in sports, I haven't felt anywhere else," he concluded.
