Julián Calero: "We played a very good match for 83 minutes"

The blue coach positively assessed the victory (1-2), highlighting his team's character and the importance of set-piece actions.

Julián Calero appeared before the media after Real Oviedo's 1-2 victory against AD Ceuta. The coach of the carbayón team expressed satisfaction with his players' performance, although he acknowledged that the final minutes of the match left a feeling of suffering that could have been avoided. Particularly, he "refused" to be left with that aftertaste.

«We played a very good match for 83 minutes. If you focus on the feeling at the end, with those minutes of pressure where anything can happen, the assessment is different. But you have to focus on everything the team has done, how it dominated and the personality it showed with the ball,» said the blue coach.

In this regard, Calero regretted not having sealed the match earlier before reaching the final stretch. «In the second half, we had the chance for 0-3 with an opportunity from Morales that would have allowed us to avoid suffering. The need to win, after losing the last two away games, led us to defend differently in the final minutes. The important thing is that we managed to hold onto the result,» he explained.

Another aspect highlighted by the coach was the team's effectiveness in set-piece situations, which were decisive in securing the three points. «We work a lot on these situations, and I want to congratulate everyone involved in set pieces. They do very important work that, unfortunately, doesn't always get rewarded. It's a fundamental part of the game, and if you manage to make those actions go your way, you gain a lot,» he stated.

Despite the two goals scored through this method, the Oviedo coach also engaged in self-criticism. «Scoring two goals from set pieces is great, but we also conceded one because we didn't finish a defensive action. We lacked scoring the 0-3 and, above all, maintaining our personality with the ball. We gave in a bit, relaxed, and in the end, we conceded, leaving us with that feeling of pressure,» he analyzed.

Finally, Calero emphasized the difficulty of earning three points in a challenging setting like the Alfonso Murube. «Anyone who hasn't played in Ceuta won't understand how difficult it is to play here because it's a tough field,» concluded the Real Oviedo coach.
