Today saw a hard-fought match this afternoon between Real Oviedo and Granada in Matchday 15. The afternoon began with an emotional tribute in memory of Armando. Álvaro Cervera opted for changes to the starting eleven, lining up with Braat, Costas, Luismi, Borja Bastón, Dani Calvo, Obeng, Aceves, Montoro, Hugo Rama, Lucas and Abel Bretones.
Los Azules didn't start badly and created danger in the opening minutes. In the tenth minute a move down the left wing saw an Obeng effort deflected out for a corner. From the resulting corner Real Oviedo had their best opportunity of the first half. The Ghanaian forward flicked the ball on at the near post, before Costas' header struck the crossbar.
The visitors did not trouble the Asturians during the opening thirty minutes, but the most controversial moment of the encounter arrived in the 38th minute. A very questionable decision saw Caparrós Hernández deem Aceves to have denied a Granada striker a clear goal scoring opportunity and show the Mexican defender a red card.
Los Carbayones managed to make it to halftime with the score still 0-0, despite being down to ten men. The early stages of the second half saw the team close ranks, hold onto the draw against an Andalusian team with a numerical advantage, and wait for the opportunity.
Football sometimes rewards those who know how to suffer and lets them give the fans what they deserve, and that was the case for Real Oviedo today. A fantastic piece of play between Lucas and Sergi Enrich saw the forward backheel in what he later described as one of the nicest goals of his career.
These were three deserved points and provide a morale boost for a team that will go back to work on Wednesday.
