Real Oviedo broke their positive recent run of results as they fell to a tough 2-1 defeat against Real Valladolid, on a Friday night on which the crowd at the Tartiere once again responded.

Anquela repeated the same starting eleven, but this time Real Oviedo couldn’t get comfortable at any point in the match. The clearest first-half chance for the Asturians came from a corner, with Carlos Hernández’s header just eluding the goal. The away side didn’t threaten too much, but they did compete for possession, unsettling Anquela’s men.

The match continued in much the same way in the second half. Mata scored in the 59th minute to break the deadlock, and then from a set piece Ramon Folch turned the ball into his own net. The 2-0 scoreline affected the home side greatly. Anquela made two immediate changes, with Johannesson and Yeboah coming on, before introducing Linares as well. Real Oviedo had their strongest period of the match from this point onwards, but they were still lacking in attack. Masip denied first Yeboah and then Toché, before Linares made the score 2-1 with five minutes remaining. Real Oviedo pushed forward in attack but couldn’t find an equaliser, as they failed to gain any points from a game in which they lacked cutting edge.

The team will return to training tomorrow (Saturday) from 10:30 at El Requexón.
