Real Oviedo left Mallorca with a point as a reward for some fine defensive work and a superb display from Juan Carlos on his return to his birthplace.

Real Oviedo, who made two changes to the starting eleven which had been picked for the previous match, were unable to feel comfortable at any point in the first half.  The saves from Juan Carlos in the first few minutes were a sign of things to come during the first forty five minutes, with many Mallorca attacks but which lacked the finishing touch.  Real Oviedo tried to respond on the counter attack, but struggled to make inroads.

In the second half the Asturians grew into the game and gained more control of possession, as well as trying their luck in attack.  The clearest Real Oviedo chance was cut short by the referee, who gave a free kick for a clear elbow on Toché, while Edu Bedia was clean through on the home side’s goal.  The central midfielder scored, but the goal was disallowed due to the free kick given to the Real Oviedo striker.  Mallorca couldn’t make the most of their chances from set pieces, neither from numerous corners, nor free kicks.  Real Oviedo finished the game physically stronger, maintaining their defensive solidity and managing to secure a brave point from their trip to the Iberostar Estadi.

The team will train tomorrow at 10:30, at RCD Mallorca’s Ciudad Deportiva Antonio Asensio training facilities.
