Unión Deportiva Las Palmas provided the opposition for Real Oviedo in Matchday 34 of the league season today at the NMR Carlos Tartiere. The match ended in a goalless draw, but the side from the capital of Asturias was relentless in the pursuit of a breakthrough throughout the 90 minutes.
Real Oviedo lined up with the same starting eleven as last time out in Castellón: Femenías; Juanjo Nieto, Arribas, Bolaño, Mossa; Sangalli, Edgar, Tejera, Borja Sánchez; Nahuel and Blanco Leschuk. The visitors dominated the first half of the encounter, but Los Azules put them under severe pressure after halftime.
The first half was a very physical affair featuring a lot of collisions. Las Palmas took control of the play and Real Oviedo found it difficult to put together combinations in possession and threaten Vallés in the away side's net. The two defences played an important role in the first half, dealing with all of the danger created by both sides. Tejera went closest to opening the scoring, with a shot from outside the box, but the keeper dealt with his strike. The two teams went in for the interval with the score 0-0.
The second half of the match was marked by numerous stoppages. Real Oviedo took control of the play and started to look to the wings to cross the ball into the box. Rodri Ríos came on in the first change. Jesé received a straight red card in the 65th minute for a foul on Sangalli. Los Azules began to dominate the match after the dismissal and put the visitors under constant pressure. Ziganda brought on Borja Valle to look to find the ball between the lines to break Las Palmas down. Sangalli, Borja Sánchez, Nahuel and Borja Valle all tested the Las Palmas keeper, but the shot stopper managed to thwart them all. Obeng came on in the final change.
Los Azules added another point to the tally today. Tomorrow will see the side begin to prepare for next weekend's fixture against Sporting de Gijón.
