A new Real Oviedo academy is born in Egypt
The initiative forms part of the work done by the Real Oviedo Foundation and the Club’s International Department, who have intensified their efforts in recent years to carry our values, methodology, and identity beyond our borders. The opening of this academy represents a key milestone in the club’s project for expansion, which has been consolidated by the first team’s return to LaLiga, the top flight of Spanish football.
The relationship between Real Oviedo and Zona Deportiva started three years ago with an exchange programme for players and coaches, through which more than 30 Egyptian footballers have had the opportunity to develop their professional career in Spain. In addition, specialised training courses have been offered to Egyptian coaches, contributing significantly to the progress of the technical and development sector in the North African country.
The academy, which will carry the name Escuela Real Oviedo Egypt, will begin to function officially in September with the incorporation of Liga Academy into the structure, an academy which is now operating under the management of Zona Deportiva. Through its current and future bases, with new sites set to open in the final quarter of the year, coaches and players will work under the direct supervision of Real Oviedo coaches, following a methodology aligned with the club’s philosophy.
The academy’s teams will compete in official competitions organised by the Egyptian Football Federation, representing our badge on a new international stage. This expansion responds to the club’s firm commitment to promoting young talent, as well as extending ties between cultures through football, and generating new opportunities for Egyptian players to make their move into European football.
The news arrives at a special time for the club, which will play an important match against Real Madrid in Matchday 2 of LaLiga this weekend. The club’s directors have complete belief in the team, which boasts Egyptian football Haitham Hassan among its ranks, as one of the key players in the current footballing project.
This new step sees Real Oviedo reaffirm its determination to be a reference in international training, integration, and development, always with the support of its history, fans, and firm commitment to education in values through sport.
