Real Oviedo let slip a great opportunity to bring themselves back into the heat of the playoff promotion battle in Tarragona. Real Oviedo picked up one single point, which moves them to within two points of sixth place, in a match of two very different halves.

The first half both started and ended under the complete control of a Real Oviedo side who had made two changes to the starting eleven, both in attack. Carlitos and Nando came in alongside Toché and Susaeta, and contributed heavily to Real Oviedo’s early attacking threat. With complete control of the ball, and after firing a couple of warning shots, a fine
right-wing cross from Susaeta was delivered with such quality that Carlitos only had to get a touch to it to give Real Oviedo the lead. The Asturians then managed to extend their advantage shortly afterwards. Christian Fernández applied heavy pressure to a seemingly lost cause, and the resulting mix-up between the defence and goalkeeper allowed Toché to fire home from outside the box. Costas also had a fine chance from a set piece just before the second goal, before Nando had a great opportunity after some fine individual play, but he was denied by the opposition goalkeeper.

In the second half, the balance of the match changed completely. Nástic came flying out after the break, and Real Oviedo struggled to withstand the home side’s onslaught. However, a ball fell to the edge of the box for the Catalans to cut the deficit to 2-1, and Los Azules struggled to pick themselves back up from the blow. Hierro brought on Vila and Saúl, but the
second goal arrived in a very similar fashion to the first. The ball ricocheted out to the edge of the box, and Tejera curled home his second goal of the evening. Nothing came off for Real Oviedo in attack, but one final effort from Toché in the dying minutes of the encounter went close.

A draw was not the aim for Real Oviedo, but it keeps them just two points away from the playoff positions.
