Real Oviedo Head Coach José Ángel Ziganda appeared before the media this morning ahead of the trip to face a Leganés side which "has a squad built with the clear objective of finishing at the top of the division. We all expected them to be higher up the table, but there's still a long way to go. The change in coach has brought them good results. It's a very even division and they've played matches with a lot of chances. Perhaps what they need in order to get the wins is to be more clinical in both boxes. They've not been a team which has not been in matches, but results haven't gone their way. The most important thing is us and the mentality that we usually have."
Regarding Borja Bastón's form, the Gaffer stated that "he's on a good run, but I've said the same thing right from the start. He deserves credit, because he's not just come in to score goals, but to do more. (He does) whatever it takes and that is where he brings out everything he is capable of. He is doing a lot of work, not just for goals, but in all-round play. He's doing it for the team and showing ambition. It's a big advantage for us to have a player with that attitude available to us."
Asked about the team's form, Ziganda was clear and aware that "us coaches live off results and the feeling we have is that the opponents have gone away happier with the draws than we have, particularly in the home games where results have got away from us. They've escaped us. Not just in terms of the results, but also the play and the way the match was going. It's something we have to correct. This journey has made us optimistic. We have to improve on those mistakes and maintain the mentality that it doesn't matter where we are playing: we always get into the opposition half and go for it as much as we can. We are making more mistakes with small details than in the team's general performance, and we are capable of developing further."
With respect to the statistic of having conceded in all of the last seven matches, the Gaffer highlighted that "we analyse everything and we know that we have conceded goals at crucial moments and times. Obviously it's very important to keep clean sheets in order to win matches, but in certain matches we could have scored more given the number of chances we created and how the matches went. We are all important defensively, in the same way that we are creating chances in every match. We have to know how to hold onto results."
Finally, regarding the team's position in the table and the lack of points, Ziganda admitted that "I would like to see where we'd be if we had a few more points, but obviously so far it's not been enough. I feel represented by the team in a lot of moments of the match, but it's a long season. We will see if we are capable of progressing in the knowledge of the idea we have and knowing that there is room for improvement. We have a lot of new signings and some important players left us. This squad is picking up the automatic movements and other things will improve with time."
