Real Oviedo Head Coach Cuco Ziganda today appeared before the Press for the first time since the start of preseason, responding to questions from the media.
The Gaffer began by discussing his prolonged stay in charge of the Real Oviedo, as he approaches what will be his third season as Head Coach. "I am very happy about it. I'm looking to make the dreams we have come true, and I'm very grateful to the club for giving me the opportunity to stay here, continuing with this project that we all feel happy with."
Discussing the structural changes at the club, Ziganda said that "we are searching for the path to continuity. I think that the people who have come in have a clear common denominator in having been at the club previously, and knowing the environment and the feeling around the club, which is something very important in order to be able to do the work Real Oviedo fans want us to do. We have to be patient, because these things don't happen overnight, but we want to build on a sense of commitment, knowledge, and the awareness of the feel of the club. We have to bring continuity to all of it, and that shouldn't depend on whether the ball goes in the net or not."
Regarding the squad, with a lot of new signings still yet to arrive, the coach preferred to "wait and build the best squad possible, rather than rushing and not being convinced about what we bring in. We know that this is how it will be. The sooner they come in the better, but if we have to wait for a player who we are interested in then we will do so, in order to have a more complete squad."
The Coach, who is waiting for new players to arrive, and with players who played a lot of minutes in previous seasons departing, wants "to be able to balance the squad, and to bring in people with hunger, with a spark, and with quality. Rubén (Reyes) is someone who knows the market and has clear aims. We speak every day and have a lot in common in terms of the profile of players we want. Rubén gets the final say, but we talk about the type of player that would be good for us, and the profile of each one. We are working together on a daily basis."
The team needs signings in all areas, but Ziganda said that "we have to make the budget, the players, and the positions all work. We need players all over the pitch, and the aim is to make a team. I want fans to be able to identify with the team when they are allowed back in the stadium. There is such a fine line between winning and losing...let's see if we are able to build a good team, which people can identify with, and which we enjoy watching every day."
