Real Oviedo Head Coach Cuco Ziganda appeared in the Press Room this Thursday at El Requexón, with Saturday's match on the horizon.
After Real Oviedo picked up the victory in Burgos and moved to within a place of the LaLiga SmartBank playoff positions, the Gaffer reasoned that "it's time to live in the here and now. We have to only think about Saturday, because it is going to be very even. The differences are minimal, you can see that in the division, and we have to put in a good performance. We must only focus on La Real B, and then see how the matchday goes."
Asked whether the team needs to focus on not getting complacent against La Real B, Ziganda reasoned that "we are professionals and we are dedicated to this. We know who we are going up against and we know how they've progressed. We are not getting cocky, it's a team that plays well and creates chances. We have full respect for La Real. They are coming off the back of a win, with morale high, and they will want to push upwards."
With respect to changes in formation and how Borja Sánchez fits in, the Gaffer stated that "Borja adapts to different styles and has what he needs in order to do so. Borja has always played, and when he hasn't done so it's because he's not been 100% up to speed fitness-wise. I can see him playing in the middle or on the wings."
The battle in the top four places in the division is relentless, and the Coach is well aware of it. "They are going at an amazing tempo, getting a lot of points, and improving. You can see a difference between them and the rest. They are playing a year at a high level, coming through bad moments. They are teams with the attributes to win a lot of matches."
Focused on this Saturday's opponent, Ziganda said that La Real B "are going to play good football. They are an organised, happy, energetic team. They are one of the teams that runs the furthest in the division and they will force us to make a great physical effort. We can see that they have taken a big step up and are improving week by week. We have to look at them like another team from this division. They have scared some other teams, and we have to give them complete respect and concentrate. We have to do things well."
The Gaffer stated that he is not thinking about the table. "We are thinking about winning, putting in a good performance, and seeing how to get our reward. From there, we have to do what is in our hands and see how results go elsewhere. Calculations are pointless. We have to try to win and continue enjoying this journey."
Finally, regarding the growth he is still hoping to see from his team, the Coach explained that "we still have room for improvement. The main one comes through being able to make a jump as a team, as a group, and as a squad. Mental and emotional tiredness start to come in now, but you have to withstand those moments. We have to manage the different moments, it will be important."
