Real Oviedo Head Coach appeared in the Press Room ahead of the match against UD Almería, responding to the questions put to him by members of the media.
As is the norm, the Coach began by evaluating the state of the team going into Monday's match at the NMR Carlos Tartiere, stating that "we are doing well, and just have a couple of players with knocks. They are not big issues and we will see how they develop."
Ahead of possible changes to the starting eleven for the fixture against the Andalucian side, Ziganda highlighted that "we will look for the best team. We have to think that there are six games from now until Christmas, which is a lot. We will take it week by week, with one eye on what's coming. We will look for a trustworthy, strong team."
Asked about the number of yellow cards Edgar has received so far this season and the possibility of him facing a suspension in the coming matchdays, the Coach said that "there's no need to contain him. He's not a dirty player. He's tall, you notice him a lot, and he goes in for all the challenges. A lot of the cards could be avoided if they were checked properly. It doesn't affect us. Edgar and Tejera are playing, but we have other players in the squad who will have to play and will do so with strength, energy, and desire. We believe in them and they are going to have the opportunity to prove themselves."
With respect to the upcoming opponent, Almería, the Coach said that "they are a real threat to the teams at the top of the table, because they have a complete squad, with quality. Even though they are young players, they are not just anybody. They have a very exciting future. They are in good form, playing very attacking football, and turning it into results." In addition, regarding how to play against a side like Almería, Ziganda admitted that "possession often depends on the opponent. We will see how the match turns out. Lugo allowed us to play the ball out from the back. The important things are for us to be able to read the match, stay compact, press high up the pitch, and to be aggressive and clinical when it comes to our goal scoring opportunities."
Ziganda also highlighted "the team's work", stating that "it's not easy to play at this club, and it was difficult to replace some players who were so important to the team. The lads are adapting well to the team and it is bringing us results. The group is looking forwards, with the ambition to represent Real Oviedo."
Finally, asked about the room his team has to grow, Ziganda reasoned that "we can improve a lot, but we know that we mustn't lose focus. We are a team which makes opponents suffer. We have to be ambitious and go after matches. Nobody knows where we will be come the end of the season, but we do know that we have to step forward, improve, and forget about previous months. We have to focus on having a good atmosphere as a group and being able to give the image that the fans want from us. We have to know what we want and be ambitious."
