Yoel Bárcenas: “I want to help the team”

After his first training session, the new Real Oviedo player, Yoel Bárcenas, was presented in the press room in the sports facilities at El Requexón.

The Panamanian was accompanied by César Martín, who gave him a hearty welcome, stating that, “We are very happy to have him here at Real Oviedo.” In addition, the Director of Institutional Relations of the club, highlighted that, “Yoel is a player that’s going to give us a lot. He’s coming on a loan from the Mexican team Cafetaleros, and he has played in the World Cup. He plays well on the wings and can play on both sides. He’s an aggressive player and is good at outmaneuvering the opponent, and he has good speed. We’re grateful for his willingness to be here.”

On his part, the winger starting by explaining the reasons that he decided to play for Real Oviedo, “One of the main reasons that I’m here is that Spain is a dream. I want to play in Primera, the opportunity came about for me to come to this great club and now it’s time to get to work so that I can grow as a player.”

Asked about how he would define himself as a player, the Panamanian explained that, “I consider myself to be a technical player, I can dribble well, but I’ll adapt to whatever coach wants. I can play on both wings, either on the right side or the left.” In addition, in order to make the decision Yoel spoke with Dely Valdés, a Panamanian player that had a stint with Real Oviedo, “I asked him and he told me that this is a great opportunity. I’m very excited, Dely remembers his time in Oviedo fondly and I want to follow in his footsteps.”

About his participation in the World Cup in Russia, the winger said that, “It was an awesome experience, a dream. I’m glad that I could have thatexperience.” In addition, regarding the arrival of Panamanian players to European football, Yoel believes that, “We have improved a lot, we were able to participate in a World Cup. That’s something that can open doors for us. Coming to Europe is a big step and now we need to adapt to the best football in the world, which is played here in Spain.”

Finally, regarding his ability to adapt to the team and being under the direction of Juan Antonio Anquela, the winger understands that, “Every day I’m going to get used to being here and I’ll see what coach asks of me. I want to help the team. I’ve spoken with him, but not about strategy. He’s been very welcoming and we’ve been sharing experiences,” concluded the Panamanian.
