Matchday 35 in LaLiga SmartBank took Real Oviedo to El Molinón to face Real Sporting in the Asturian derby, with Los Carbayones claiming an important 1-0 away win.
Ziganda made three changes from the starting eleven used against Las Palmas, today opting to begin the match with Femenías; Johannesson, Arribas, Grippo, Lucas; Sangalli, Tejera, Edgar, Borja Sánchez; Nahuel and Blanco Leschuk. Victory was important today in order to create a gap above the relegation places and move closer to the fifty-point target.
The first half saw a very professional performance from Los Azules. The team from the capital of Asturias took the lead very early on, when Johannesson met a Lucas cross and left Mariño helpless. Sporting de Gijón began to get hold of the ball and dominate stages of the game after falling behind. However, the Real Oviedo defence was very well-organised and solid throughout the encounter, and did not give away any chances to the hosts. Nahuel and Borja Sánchez had other good opportunities in the first half, but were unable to take them. Sporting de Gijón did not threaten Femenías in the Real Oviedo goal, and the visitors spent the latter stages of the first half looking for long balls to Blanco Leschuk.
The two defences continued to play a key role in the match after the halftime interval. Sporting sent a warning early on in the second half, missing a clear opportunity to equalise. The hosts took control of the ballonce more, but without creating any  danger with it. Ziganda brought Obeng and Borja Valle on to add hard work and freshness to Los Azules, as Real Oviedo threatened several times on the counter attack. Bolaño came on in the final change for Los Carbayones. The match ended with Sporting searching in vain for an equaliser, with Real Oviedo rock solid at the back.
Real Oviedo added three important points to the tally today in the Asturian derby. The win serves to boost morale, reinforce the work being done, and move the team from the capital of Asturias closer to the fifty-point target.
