Real Oviedo Vetusta travelled to Galicia this weekend to face SD Compostela in Matchday 15 in Grupo 1 of the Segunda RFEF. The Asturians went into the match off the back of the 5-0 victory against CD Covadonga last time out, and with the objective of picking up a positive result from this tricky away trip. Coach Jaime Álvarez opted for a starting eleven made up of Marco, Osky, Aimar Collante, Pereke, Lamine, Víctor Blanco, Izan, Dieguito, Miguélez, Darío and Xavi Sola.
The B team emerged the stronger side at kick-off, and would have a clear opportunity to take the lead in the 8th minute. Xavi Sola got to the byline before pulling the ball back to Miguélez, but the forward was denied by a fine intervention by the last defender. Los Carbayones were still on top, and would have another good chance in the 18th minute. Sola went through one-on-one with the home keeper, but his effort was straight at the shot stopper. The Galicians went close in the 29th minute with a good strike, which Marco tipped around the post for a corner. However, Vetusta continued to dominate and were well-positioned out on the pitch. Just before the interval, in the 40th minute, Lamine tried his luck with a fine strike from the edge of the box, but Borja Rey denied him. The two teams went in for halftime with the scores 0-0.
After the break, Jaime Álvarez maintained their gameplan and continued to create the clearest opportunities. In the 53rd minute Xavi Sola threatened once more, but his effort went just wide. Santi Miguélez also went close to opening the scoring following a one-two with Diego Menéndez, but his effort grazed the upright. The hosts withstood Vetusta's attacks, and would ultimately be rewarded with the winning goal in the 76th minute. Antón fired home a great strike from the edge of the area to give Compostela a 1-0 win, and thwart the B team, who had put in a great performance and were only lacking the finishing touch.
The Asturians gave it everything in the final stages as they looked to fight back, but were ultimately unable to do so. Enol, who came on during the second half, had two good opportunities during the final minutes, but the goal didn't arrive. Today's undeserved defeat leaves Vetusta in 14th place, with 15 points.
