Real Oviedo went into the Matchday 19 fixture against Racing de Santander with the aim of conquering El Sardinero. Los Carbayones, who were backed by more than 1,200 travelling Oviedistas, went into the encounter with the clear objective of continuing to climb the table, and Luis Carrión opted for a starting eleven made up of Leo Román, Lucas, Dani Calvo, Oier Luengo, Abel, Colombatto, Jimmy, Sebas Moyano, Seoane, Masca and Bastón.

Within the first minute of the match, Abel Bretones had a very clear opportunity to open the scoring, but he was denied by the home keeper. Real Oviedo's good start continued, however, and Colombatto would give the Asturians the lead in the 17th minute. Racing looked to hit back immediately with some good play by Arana, but Leo Román appeared with a fine stop to maintain the clean sheet.

Despite the keeper's good work, in the 30th minute Peque did make the score 1-1 with a low strike. The match was an even affair, but Los Carbayones grew as the minutes passed. Seoane thought that he had made the score 2-1, but the officials decided to disallow the goal for a foul in the build-up following a VAR check. Nonetheless, in the 44th minute Dani Calvo headed home from a Colombatto corner to restore the lead.

Los Azules emerged for the second half with the aim of adding a third goal to seal the victory. Bastón had two good chances, but both were deemed offside. Former Real Oviedo player Sangalli had the best opportunity for the hosts during the opening minutes of the half, but Leo Román was up to the challenge once more. Viti came on in the 61st minute in place of Colombatto, with Seoane dropping back to join Jimmy in the heart of the midfield.

Real Oviedo protected the lead until Peque equalised from the penalty spot in the 78th minute. The score was 2-2, with all to play for in the final stages. Luis Carrión made a triple substitution in the 85th minute, with Alemão, Yayo, and Pomares entering the fray. A mistake from a Racing defender saw Alemão through on goal, but his effort was blocked by a defender. From the resulting corner, Yayo headed the ball against the woodwork.

The match eventually came to an end with the score 2-2. The draw saw Los Carbayones pick up another away point and take the tally for the season to 26.
