Real Oviedo Vetusta returned to El Requexón today following last weekend's victory away at Burgos Promesas, as they came up against Arenteiro in Matchday 21 in the Segunda RFEF. Having picked up 13 of the last 15 points available, Los Azules were looking to continue their good run of form, and Jaime Álvarez opted for a starting eleven made up of Marco; Charbel, Lucas Laso, René Pérez, Osky; Yayo, A. Cardero, Izan, Miguel Cuesta, Sesé; Masca.

The opening stages were a very tight affair, with both teams coming into the encounter in excellent form. The visitors looked to dominate the encounter through possession of the ball, but Vetusta were not overly threatened and looked to create danger on the counter attack. The early moments were very even, until Jaime Álvarez's side won a penalty in the thirtieth minute. Masca was brought down by an opponent for a stonewall penalty, and the referee had no doubts. The Portuguese forward stepped up to take the spot kick, but his effort was denied by the away goalkeeper.

The setback for Los Carbayones did not change the game plan, as the side continued to play in their own style against the league leaders. The Galicians went close with a shot from the edge of the box which went just wide, but the two teams went in for halftime with the score still 0-0.

Just after an interval there was another setback for the hosts, as Arenteiro forward Escobar opened the scoring in the 48th minute. Jaime Álvarez's side didn't let their heads drop and were relentless in their search of an equaliser. Miguel Cuesta went close to making the score 1-1 following some fine play by Sesé down the right wing, but he was unable to apply the finishing touch.

Masca was unable to convert from a fine René Pérez cross in yet another good opportunity for Vetusta. The visitors sat back more as the minutes ticked by, while Los Azules threw everything forward in search of an equaliser. In the end Vetusta deserved more but were unable to earn any points from the match.

Following the end to their fine run of results in 2023, the B team will look to get back to winning ways way at Ourense CF next time out.
