Nine months and eight days after their last match with fans in the stands, which was against Extremadura at the Francisco de la Hera, Real Oviedo finally played another match in front of supporters tonight at the Municipal de la Isla. Tonight's first round Copa del Rey fixture against Coria saw the Asturians secure a 3-2 away win.
Cuco Ziganda opted for a starting eleven made up of Brazão; Johannesson, Edgar, Bolaño, Mossa; Riki, Jimmy, Aburjania, Cedric; Viti and Mujica. The side managed to pick themselves up from the blows of the two goals scored by the hosts, and secure safe passage into the next round of the knockout tournament. The first half began with Los Carbayones controlling the game and the possession and threatening in attack. Viti, who was one of the standout players, had the first chance of the match, before Mujica also then had an opportunity to open the scoring. It would be Coria, however, who would find a way past Brazão and break the deadlock, with the goalkeeper helpless to do anything to prevent it. Real Oviedo continued to control the play, though, and continued to produce dangerous attacks. Viti revelled the scores following some fine combination play between Riki and Aburjania. Minutes later, on the brink of halftime, Mujica put Ziganda's team into the lead, and the two teams went in for the interval with the score 0-1.
The halftime break saw Real Oviedo Acting Club President Manolo Paredes present CD Coria with a commemorative plaque to mark the occasion. CD Coria continued to threaten the Asturians' goal in the second half, with Los Azules looking to push back against the team from Extremadura. The home team equalised in the 55th minute. However, despite the setback, Ziganda's side took charge of the match from that moment onwards. Real Oviedo brought on Javi Mier and Nahuel, just before Mujica managed to grab the winning goal for Los Carbayones. Samuel Obeng, Sangalli and Lucas all also came on later in the match.
Victory for Los Carbayones at La Isla was enough to see Ziganda's side progress in the knockout competition. Real Oviedo will return to the capital of Asturias tonight and will use tomorrow's evening training session to begin to prepare for Friday's match against SD Ponferradina.
