Real Oviedo striker Rafa Mujica today appeared in the Press Room at El Requexón after Los Azules made it through to the next round of the Copa del Rey.
The attacker was one of the key men in the game against Coria, twice hitting the back of the net. Asked about his celebration after the first goal, Mujica highlighted that "in the celebration you could see my hunger to get back playing, get minutes, and be able to show that we are all prepared. I was hungry to get back competing."
With respect to the impact of a lack of gametime heading into a match, the forward reasoned that "I don't know if it makes it difficult for finishing or not, but it's about confidence. Things go better for you when you have more confidence. Things will go better with more minutes and more matches. The team getting through is the important thing. I came out of the game happy, which is what I wanted to do. I came out of it feeling good."
Regarding the conversations he had with Ziganda throughout these months without gametime, Mujica declared that "he's shown confidence in me and told me to take it day by day. Football has a lot of twists and everything can change. We have to be prepared at any moment. It's about enjoying the minutes we get, and the match went well."
Finally, asked about his lack of minutes and whether he is considering a possible departure in January, Mujica stated that "obviously any footballer likes to play, and we don't like to not get gametime, but we are privileged to be sportsmen and we have to be prepared for these circumstances. I am calm and take it one day at a time. I focus on the present, on the daily work, and whatever has to happen will happen. I want to earn myself opportunities and show that I can do a job. I have never thought about leaving. In football there are times when you play and others when you don't. The Coach picks whoever he thinks is best to get the victory. I am not thinking about leaving, I am thinking about earning myself an opportunity. That comes through hard work and enjoying it."
