Estadio Gran Canaria today hosted Real Oviedo's tenth match of the LaLiga Smartbank season, with Los Azules travelling to face UD Las Palmas. The Asturians triumphed 2-1 away from home.
Ziganda was unable to sit on the bench for today's match following his red card against Logroñés, but he once again rotated his team, bringing in Femenías, Carlos Hernández, Lucas and Borja. The first half saw Real Oviedo show real defensive solidity once more, as they barely conceded any chances to Las Palmas. Los Azules made the most of the pace of their attacking players, with quick counter attacks allowing them to open the scoring. From two consecutive opportunities, Nahuel made the most of his pace and his two goals put Ziganda's side into a strong position. With a 2-0 lead, Real Oviedo continued to look to counter attacks, and make the most of Borja Sánchez and Sangalli in behind.
Arribas came on for Bolaño for the start of the second half, and Real Oviedo would win a penalty almost immediately. Blanco Leschuk took the spot kick but was denied by the home keeper. The Asturians also had another great opportunity from a triple chance, where the goalkeeper, the post, and a shot over the bar prevented them adding a third. Viti came on for Sangalli and the match went into a less-intense period. During that spell, Los Azules didn't concede any chances, while they did continue to threaten. Javi Mier, Obeng and Cedric were the final substitutes used by Ziganda. The hosts did manage to grab a consolation goal in the final minutes.
Today saw three important points added to Real Oviedo's tally, to underline the work done this week. Real Oviedo will now begin to focus on the next Liga Smartbank fixture, while will them play Castellón at the NMR Carlos Tartiere.
