The Press Room at El Requexón today saw Sergio Tejera presented with the award for October's 'Jugador Cinco Estrellas' Player of the Month. The Catalan midfielder has been one of the standout players during these opening stages of the season, bringing goals and fine performances to the centre of the park, and has now been recognised by fans of Los Azules. Tejera won the award after supporters chose him from the five nominations made by the beer company through their Twitter profile @futbolmahou, and he received the prize ahead of this afternoon's training session.
Sergio Tejera then went on to answer a selection of the questions sent in by fans of Los Azules via social media.
What does it mean to you for fans to have awarded you the #JugadorCincoEstrellas https://twitter.com/search?q=%23JugadorCincoEstrellas award?
- At the end of the day, it's an honour. I am happy and grateful to the fans.
What do you feel towards this club, and what does it mean to you to wear the captain's armband?
- I knew I was coming to a big club right from the first moment. Real Oviedo deserves to be higher up and all I can do is help the team as much as I can. Being captain is a responsibility. I have to help my teammates and work hard.
Is your level of performances linked to playing alongside Edgar, or is it more of a mental/confidence issue?
- I try to improve each day and understand how all of them play. There is competition and all four of us are involved.
What did it mean to you to score the winner in the derby, knowing what victory in that match means to this city?
- It was a special day and even more so thanks to the three points. They let me know what the Asturian Derby was right from the start of my time here, and I'm happy to be able to experience it and top it off by scoring.
Do you have any superstitions before stepping out onto the pitch?
- I step out with my right foot, I cross myself three times, and I dedicate it to my grandfather.
What has been the best moment you have experienced at Real Oviedo?
- The best moment, given how much we had suffered, was survival (last season).
What are you expecting from Castellón?
- An even match. We mustn't relax. We are going into it with the confidence to improve, to keep doing the things we are doing well, and to go for the win.
