Real Oviedo midfielder Sergio Tejera appeared in the Press Room at El Requexón ahead of another day of training for Los Carbayones.
Fully immersed in his recovery process, the Catalan said that he was "fine and meeting the timeframes", but admitted that "we don't want to rush. The important thing is not to have setbacks. I am hungry to get back, but it'd be hard to be back for this weekend. I am working with the medical staff and I hope to be back soon so that I can help the team."
While the injury has kept him off the pitch personally in recent weeks, Tejera highlighted that "the team has done well and we have come out on top in matches. The team is playing at a great level and no matter who plays, the team responds."
Real Oviedo returns to league action this Sunday against RCD Mallorca, and the midfielder highlighted that "they are joint league leaders and a very tough opponent. They are intense, and we will have to match them in intensity, but we are normally intense too. We have to be strong at home and keep going with confidence."
Asked about the congested fixture list during the first half of the season, Tejera reasoned that "I was feeling good, had no problem at all, but then my calf went. I pushed downwards and got this injury. I have to learn from it and recharge my batteries so as to come back in as well as possible."
With respect to the second part of the season, the Captain stated that "we are going into it with the highest hopes possible and in the knowledge that if we keep doing things as we have been then this team can fight for anything. We have to keep our feet on the ground, be aware of how difficult the division is and of the fact we don't want to suffer, and take it game by game. That is the key."
Discussing the areas to work on in the second half of the season and what he would highlight about the team, Tejera said that "we have improved away from home and we have won matches, but we have to get better at the NMR Carlos Tartiere. We have to get more points at home. Being strong at home will be important. The most important thing is the squad we have. Everyone is committed to what we are doing, to the Coach and to the playing style. We have to keep going with intensity."
Finally, on an individual level, the Catalan reasoned that "I have to keep contributing to the team. Offensively, I'd like to get a few more goals, but I have to keep working hard to help Real Oviedo. In addition, I hope to not have any more injuries in 2021. I know my body better now and know when it is giving me warnings not to keep pushing it. Let's try to make our fans happy. They've deserved it for a long time. If we keep working then this team can do good things."
