After his signing was announced yesterday, and having trained this morning at El Requexón, Borja Valle was today presented as a Real Oviedo player in the Press Room at the NMR Carlos Tartiere.
The attacker, who is returning to Los Azules for a second spell, was accompanied by the club's Director of Football, Francesc Arnau, who began by welcoming him to the club. Arnau highlighted that "on a football management level it's good to have him in as soon as possible. We have important matches in the months of January and February, and it's good for us to have reinforcements in at the earliest opportunity. We are grateful for Borja's willingness to adapt to the league wage cap. We hope he can be a match winner, who gives us competition and his ability. He can run into space and will bring quality. You all know him. He's coming back to one of his homes."
The player himself began by giving thanks for "the welcome I've received ever since arriving. I am happy to be here, as I am back somewhere that was home for me. I had two marvelous years in Oviedo and had fantastic experiences." He did, however, want to explain that "there were some bad things that went on that I want to clear up. I'd like to sort it all out now, because they did damage and influenced people's feelings. I made the decision to leave, that was me, but there was somebody that did not help me in making that decision, and who spread things which were not true. My commitment to the club was always real. I want to enjoy being at the club and get back to smiling again."
Regarding his agreement to join the club, Borja Valle admitted that "it wasn't difficult at all. It's true that when I returned from Romania I needed to relax and get away for a bit, since I've been through some tough times, but that was quick and easy. The past played a part. Both sides got to work and I've managed to come back. 95% of the reason for it is having been here before. I came here as a boy and was given the chance to represent this badge, with fear and responsibility, but it all worked out
well. I was lucky enough to win promotion here and it was unforgettable. They were nice, special moments. The following year, in Segunda, was a nice year too, and that also marked me. The years here made me smile. I want my time here now to be similar."
Asked about the difference between the Borja who was here in his first spell and the player he is now, the attacker reasoned that "I've changed.I'm still the same in terms of being the same person...humble and honest, but maturity hardens you. I am committed to being here. I want to do as well as possible and give 100%. I've signed until the end of the season, with the option to stay longer, but we will analyse it and decide."
One of the most memorable moments of the player's time at the club was his performance during the playoff celebrations, when he sang a 'ranchera' song on stage. Regarding that moment and whether he would like to repeat it, the attacker highlighted that "all this time people have been tagging me in those videos and it's something very nice. The story came up again yesterday and I remember it and wonder what I was doing singing in front of all those people! I would give anything to do it again, to enjoy something as pleasant as I did in that moment."
Finally, following his first hours back at the club, Borja Valle was asked about his discussions with Arnau and Ziganda. He said that "we've not had much time to talk. Arnau knows me, and so does the Coach, and the truth is that I can play as a striker, an attacking midfielder or on the left, but I am willing to accept any role. I feel comfortable up front and there won't be any problems." In addition, with respect to possible objectives, Borja reasoned that "it's not about thinking about long-term aims. We have to be ambitious, but always thinking about the next match. We have to do things as well as possible, correct our errors and keep going day by day. I don't want to make mistakes. We have to focus on Mallorca and on being solid and reliable. The team is putting in a good season. I think it looks solid and has clear ideas, and it will be important to be united. There are no objectives, but we need our own identity."
