Ziganda opted for a 4-3-3 formation once more for Real Oviedo's final preseason friendly of the summer, but made changes to the personnel: Femenías; Lucas, Dani Calvo, Grippo, Pierre Cornud; Jimmy, Javi Mier, Mossa; Viti, Obeng and Borja Sánchez.
The Asturians dominated the play and the chances during the entire first half, creating danger but not converting. Obeng had two good opportunities but was twice denied by the keeper before the defence cleared the danger. Javi Mier tried his luck with a potent strike from the edge of the box but it went over the bar. Jimmy also hit a fantastic effort from a ball in by Borja Sánchez, but it was blocked. Halftime arrived without Femenías having been threatened once.
Bolaño replaced Grippo during the halftime interval, after the Swiss centre back took a knock. Real Oviedo continued to dominate the play and the chances, as they increased the speed of the transitions in play. Obeng went close, heading wide from Pierre Cornud's cross. Sangalli, Jirka, and Matheus came on for Mossa, Viti, and Obeng, while Joni Montiel also got his first minutes in a Real Oviedo shirt. Ponferradina changed their entire starting eleven and dominated the final ten minutes, getting their reward through an 87th minute goal from Edu Espiau. Real Oviedo therefore suffered a defeat in the final match ahead of the start of the league season.
