Saúl Berjón appeared in the Press Room this morning following the team’s training session. Training was once again held before a large number of fans, something which Saúl was hugely “grateful” for. He believes that it owes much to the team’s league position, and shows happiness but also calmness. “I think that the people are euphoric, but it’s calmer and more cautious than in other years. I think that the fans believe in the Coach, and understand that it’s a long season and we must stay calm. We have to get to the last eight or ten matches with the possibility of achieving something, and then see what the team is capable of.”
Regarding the match against Huesca, the Oviedo-born player stated that, “they have players who are breaking through this year. They are demonstrating that there are no good teams based on name alone, and that good teams are made inside the dressing room. Things have gone well for us so far. People didn’t expect us to have so many points. They are also doing well, and we will see what happens. The best team will win.”
Speaking on an individual level, Saúl hopes to improve his statistics during the second half of the season, and in particular “to help the team, as that’s the only thing that matters.” With respect to the Winter Break coming when the team was in great form, the winger explained that, “we have worked hard, are on a good run, and have recovered the little bit of fitness we had lost last week. We are training hard and we are going to Huesca to win. We need to get used to winning, since it’s the only way to stay at the top of the table.”
The next two matches are away from home, but Berjón reminded that, “our opponents also think about the fact that Real Oviedo are coming. Huesca and Rayo Vallecano are good teams, but they will also be thinking that they are going to face a good team. We need to perform and see what happens.”
Asked about his hopes for the New Year, Saúl was clear, declaring that he wants to “extend our good run as long as possible, and of course, I hope that we can gain promotion this year. We will fight to the end for it.”
