CD Covadonga and Real Oviedo Vetusta faced each other at the Estadio Álvarez Rabanal this morning, in the second matchday for Emilio Cañedo's side. The match ended in a 3-1 away win for the B team.
Emilio Cañedo's team went into the clash against its fellow Oviedo side with the majority of last week's starting eleven still in place, but bringing in Lorea and Joselu Guerra. The B team showed its credentials right from the opening stages, demonstrating professionalism and hunger to get three points, and improved as today's match progressed. David Ámez, Alex Suárez and Javi Cueto had the best chances of the first half. Goalkeeper Berto Hórreo made two fine interventions just before the interval, but was not called into too much action. Real Oviedo Vetusta stayed true to their philosophy, with good defensive concentration and making the most of the pace of the wide men. The two teams went in for halftime with the score 0-0.
The second half was marked by refereeing decisions. A strong challenge saw Joselu Guerra receive a straight red card. CD Covadonga were then awarded a penalty after a home player was brought down in the area by Berto Hórreo. The hosts converted from the spot to take the lead. Following this setback, Vetusta did not let their heads drop and continued to look for a goal. Javi Cueto fired home the equaliser from a free kick from the edge of the box, before Ton Ripoll met a ball at the back post to score Real Oviedo Vetusta's second just a few minutes later. Ripoll repeated the trick in the final minutes, to seal a 3-1 away win.
Real Oviedo Vetusta added three points to the tally today, and now begin to think about the next league encounter, which will see the B team face Marino de Luanco. The fixture will kick off at 16:00 on Saturday at El Requexón.
