Los Azules got the new year underway at home this afternoon, welcoming SD Amorebieta to the Carlos Tartiere in Matchday 22 in LaLiga Hypermotion. Head Coach Luis Carrión opted for a starting eleven made up of Leo Román, Pomares,  Jaime Vázquez, Lucas, Seoane, Colombatto, Viti, Sebas, Dubasin, Masca and Borja Bastón.

 

Injuries and suspensions forced Carrión into a change in formation for today's encounter, but nonetheless, the Asturians got off to a fine start, taking a quick 1-0 lead. In just the second minute, Sebas Moyano headed home from a good Viti cross to give Los Azules the lead. Shortly afterwards Bastón would have a chance to double the advantage, but his effort was blocked. The visitors gained control of the ball as the minutes ticked by, and would eventually equalise. In the 32nd minute Jauregi capitalised on a loose ball from a corner to make the score 1-1. Dubasin fired a venemous effort just over the bar from the edge of the box, and the two teams went in for half-time with the scores still level.

 

Real Oviedo continued to look to regain the lead following the interval, but their efforts went without reward. The Basque team also threatened, striking the woodwork, but Leo Román did not have too much to do during the second half. Marco Esteban, Jimmy, and Paulino de la Fuente were the first changes used by Carrión, as he looked to push his team forward. Later, in the 80th minute, Cazorla and Borja Sánchez were introduced to a warm ovation from the Tartiere crowd, with the fans still believing in the victory. The home team were on top during the final minutes, and Paulino and Bastón both went close. The winger first fired just wide from outside the box, before the captain's header was denied by the away keeper.

 

Real Oviedo got the year off to a start with a home draw, which moved them into tenth place with 31 points. The team will go back to work at 10:30 tomorrow, as preparations begin for the league fixture against Racing de Ferrol.
