Real Oviedo defeated league leaders CD Leganés today, in a match in which they were the superior team and fully deserved the three points. A wonder strike from Paulino in the 89th minute sent the crowd at the Carlos Tartiere crazy, with the fans celebrating another victory against one of the strongest teams in the division.
Luis Carrión opted for a starting eleven made up of Leo Roman, Viti, Luengo, Dani Calvo, Abel Bretones, Jimmy, Colombatto, Dubasin, Sebas Moyano, Masca, and Borja Bastón. The Asturians were the stronger side in the opening stages, but would not create the first clear opportunity until the 35th minute. A Viti Rozada cross into the box was headed goalwards by Sebas Moyano, but the home keeper made a fine save to keep the scores level.
Bastón was the first to go close during the second half, but another good stop from Leganés keeper Alcoado meant the score remained 0-0. Los Azules pushed on further and were relentless in their search of the winning goal. Colombatto tried his luck from a free kick and Dubasin also went close, before Paulino finally curled home a spectacular winning goal to send the Carlos Tartiere into raptures.
The victory sees Los Carbayones maintain their fantastic run of form and continue to climb the table. The team will go back to work on Tuesday, ahead of next weekend's home match against Eldense.
